IT'S TIME TO GET THE (drum) ROLLING.
As you all should know by now, Bill has asked me to be the Percussion Section Leader for the upcoming season. I am honored for the opportunity to work with all of you. My time in the Rounders has been fabulous thus far. I'm sure you are all as excited as I am to be going to NYC in '08 for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. However, there will be more time and commitment needed than in seasons past. This year more than ever the Drumline needs to be "loud and proud" and the cadence needs to be stronger than ever mainly due to the massive number of performers that will be marching in the parade, possibly 500 strong. We will also need to memorize all of the music. For this reason, Bill and I want to get things started as soon as possible. We would like to start having drum practices starting immediately, once a month. The practices will be held at Northeast High School in their band room.
We are scheduled for: (all Tuesdays)
Sept 25
Oct 30
Nov 27th
We will practice from 7pm to 9pm. Of course we will need drums in order to practive. Drum pickup is scheduled for Sept 22 from 9-11am (the Saturday before the first practice) at Bringe Music. Due to the number of performers, drums will be issued on a first come - first serve basis. Any volunteers that would like to help that morning will be greatly appreciated.
The first couple of practices will be for snares, basses, and quads only. We will add the cymbals soon after. We will be focusing mainly on warmups and cadenceat first. I will bring copies of all the parts that I have received so far.
Once again, I look forward to playing with all of you again. This is a once in a lifetime event for all of us. Let's get it started.
